Apps

UPDATE:

Read our Kitchen Confessions blog for current apps to help prevent wasted food!

For that edition, we took a superficial dive into the wild-wide-world of digital food tools, and came up with a brief listing of ones we’re either currently using or are willing to try out. In particular, we looked for app developers with a well-stated commitment to our shared mission — empowering folks to waste less food and save money at home, everyday!

Here are three free, handy ways to reduce wasted food in your home by using the magic of technology.

  Food Keeper

Use this app as a technological companion to our Smart Storage materials listed on our home page. This tool was developed by the USDA’s Food Safety and Inspection Service, with Cornell University and the Food Marketing Institute. They describe their app as helping people understanding storage.
It is available as a mobile application for Android and Apple devices and as a website.
